GM and VP SIPX (Co-Founder)

Franny Lee is GM and VP ProQuest SIPX and leads the team.  Franny is dedicated to harnessing technology to make content, copyright and education more accessible and affordable. She is a frequent speaker and writer on the emerging issues at the intersection of campus needs, libraries, online education, digital content and high technology, and serves on the Management Board of MIT Press.  Originally a composer and jazz musician, Franny was drawn to copyright and Internet issues by experiencing firsthand profound changes in the music industry. Both a US and Canadian lawyer, Franny has worked on complex copyright issues for over 10 years – as a litigator in IP, entertainment and communications industries, and also with the Copyright Board of Canada in national copyright tariff proceedings, orphan works applications, policy and research initiatives, and administration of copyright collecting societies.

Franny holds a BFA from York University, a LLB/JD from Queen’s University, and a LLM in Law, Science & Technology from Stanford University. She served as Resident Fellow for the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, driving the Stanford Intellectual Property Exchange (S-I-P-X) research that led to the creation of SIPX, Inc., where she continued to grow the Silicon Valley start-up company through to acquisition by ProQuest in April 2015.
