The Dutch ministry of Education is delivering a large number of high stake summative exams and innovative diagnostic tests as CBT. In the year 2018, we expect over two million CBT deliveries per year on 8000 schools.
The nature of each type of exam or test is different. Some of them contain only basic MC items, others include innovative items like autoscored paragraph separation, text correction and formulas. In the near future we expect speech recording and autoscored graphical elements.
To meet all requirements, we developed a new innovative open source testing system, called Facet. Facet is designed to work with the QTI standard. In order to handle all the innovative item types, specific layouts and metadata, we created a QTI profile and a set of extensions together with Cito, called the Dutch Exam Profile (DEP).
In this session we will discuss the decisions we’ve made over the years to where we stand today. We will demonstrate innovative item types, go in depth on DEP and share with you our experiences on designing via architecture, developing, hosting, implementing and supporting the Facet system. Finally, we will discuss how this lead to our growing involvement in IMS and the EBA.
